Hi folks,
With the fantastic rain storm we got last night/early this morning, I took off early and ran the Little, and two several mile stretches of the Winooski between Marshfield and Montpelier.
I wanted to bring attention to the fact that there is a strainer (avoidable, but I didn't risk it at my skill level) in the first big rapid after the USGS station. It's running at about a 45 degree angle of the main current heading down stream. Otherwise, the run was smooth.
I also wanted to bring attention to a very fun, short section of the Winooski right in Marshfield Village. There is a small cemetary on your left immediately after the gas station. You can park there and put in on the back side of the property (very small trail leads you there). I took out at the library/town office property, maybe a mile downstream. Flow was a bit over 3000. There are a few drops that aren't visible from any of the roads, and its pretty much constant class II/III for this stretch, with very few eddies. It could be a great spot to run several times in a day. Hey, Kenny at the Marshfield store might even throw you a beer and sandwich on your way by!
Fun little spot 5 minutes from my front door...can't go wrong with that.
Happy Fall paddling everyone!
