Where to rent a car for a Boston trip?

I’ve been thinking about a little getaway for a few days, maybe somewhere with a mix of history, nice streets to walk, and some day trips nearby. The problem is, I’m not sure how to get around efficiently. Public transport feels limiting if I want to see surrounding towns without stressing about schedules. That’s why I started looking into renting a car in Boston, but I have no idea where to start, airport rental or downtown office? And the insurance and hidden fees seem confusing. Has anyone navigated this before?

Renting a car in Boston can be a bit tricky if you’re not familiar with the area. Airport rentals are convenient but sometimes more expensive because of extra fees, while local downtown offices might have better deals. Check whether your home car insurance or credit card covers rentals in the U.S, it can save you some money. Parking in the city can be a challenge, so plan ahead. If you mostly stick to Boston itself, maybe a car isn’t necessary, but for trips to Salem or Cape Cod it’s really handy.
