subject where to kayak when there is no rain (but it's windy)...

This Skills R Us tab has been unused as far as I know. I'm going to throw out something here for the odd kayaker who gets desperate from lack of rain to scour the depths of Tony's gem of a website. Here's the deal...

Get hands on a sea kayak 14-18' long that has proper hatches or bag floatation and find a willing partner to try another form of whitewater paddling... downwind lake surfing. If you want to test your river combat roll seek out 15-25 knots and put in somewhere where you can line up to go directly downwind.

It can be a wild ride to surf and link swell on Lake Champlain. It is quite a challenge to keep the nose going where you want and from broaching or avoiding 'the stall' when you plow into the wave in front of you in the bottom of the trough.

Oh yeah, you will appreciate rivers all the more. Especially the fact that a swim to shore involves seconds and maybe a minute. You better roll back up out there or you might be swimming for a while.
