With the Winooski at Essex running at 1,650 cfs as of 6:30 pm, the so-called Green Wave is in. Why? Because the pond level above the dam is well below normal. I don't know why, but based on past experience I'd guess they're doing some work at the Winooski One dam. (Summer and early fall is their maintenance and upgrade season.)
For playboaters this is a rare opportunity. Right now the wave is a deep, dynamic wave-hole. The flow will be rising tonight, so we'll see what it turns into. It will definitely get bigger, and it's already way bigger than, say, the wave below the first bridge on the Lower Mad.
