The Saranac has apparently leveled out at ~6.6 feet, and might be starting to rise again. (Rain is starting to fall in its watershed as I write this.) In addition, I have seen very little interest in the trip, which is understandable given all the other options currently available.
Instead I now have a plan to run Shepard Brook (Moretown/Fayston), into which I put a fair amount of wood cleaning work a week ago with much help from Chris Muraski and Paul Carlile. So far, Noel Bailey (Waitsfield) is planning on joining me. I'd love to have some others along as well.
See this trip report from April 11, 2017, describing a first run of this creek in years. This time around I expect the level to be on the medium or low side. We'll be starting farther downstream, at Randell Road.
I propose that we meet at 11:00 am at the Fayston Town Offices, where there is plenty of parking, and set shuttle from there. The run finishes at a bridge on a small side road about two hundred yards up from Route 100. (The town office entrance is 0.84 miles up the hill from Route 100, on the right.)
