There are other things to do, but the so-called Green Wave is definitely in and looking pretty good. (The river is currently running at about 4,000 cfs on the Essex gauge.)
For those who aren't familiar with this feature, it appears next to the top of the large eddy on river right, alongside the Champlain Mill, typically at flows between 2,900 and 4,100 cfs. (The level of the pool matters a lot, and that is dam-controlled.) The best shoreline vantage point for viewing the wave is the Winooski River Walk at the east end of the Champlain Mill, i.e., the upstream end.
This section of the river can be accessed from the Winooski side or the Burlington side, and can be run on far river right if you prefer to sneak the falls. (The main big water lines are on river left.) Boaters can also put in from the Chace Mill's northwest parking lot (Burlington shoreline). That will necessitate a ferry below the falls to get to the large river right eddy mentioned above.
